A 12-inch potable water main broke early this morning on Old Mill Run, near the Edgewater Bungalows and Sandpiper Way, within District 6 of North Sumter Utility.
Jacobs crews responded promptly and are currently on site completing excavation and repairs. The break caused significant lifting of the asphalt, impacting both travel lanes and the pedestrian sidewalk in the area.
Due to the extent of the damage, Community Watch has closed this section of Old Mill Run and established a detour. The closure affects motor vehicles, golf cars and pedestrian traffic.
Repairs will require extensive excavation, as well as restoration of the roadway, concrete and landscaping. Both travel lanes will also need to be restored in accordance with FDOT specifications.
Based on current estimates, this section of Old Mill Run is expected to remain closed until mid to late next week.
We will provide updates as repairs progress and the roadway is reopened.
