A section of the Multi-Modal Path (MMTP) on Buena Vista Boulevard near the Eagle Preserve is temporarily closed following an overnight irrigation main break.
During a storm on Thursday, September 10, lightning struck a 12” Irrigation Main which crossed under the Multi-Modal Path. The break caused a failure of the MMTP asphalt surface and jet-washed out a large hole.
Jacobs responded quickly to stop the water and start repairs, they were rapidly joined by Community Watch as they worked to secure the area safely. Before arrival on scene, a resident in their Golf Car believed that standing water was covering the paths surface. As a result, the Golf Car attempted to pass over the break which concluded with the vehicle falling into the hole. The driver was not injured, and the Golf Car was subsequently removed by a tow vehicle.
The line break has been repaired and crews on scene are working to backfill and compress the area to rebuild the affected section of the Multi-Modal Path. Community Watch has worked diligently to ensure resident safety and remained on scene all night. In the interim this section of the path is closed to all traffic, with detour routes established.
We anticipate the asphalt repairs to be completed as soon as the contractor can mobilize, prepare the surface and ensure it is dry enough to apply. This ultimately may take a few days to complete but the path should temporarily re-open once the backfill, compression and clean-up operations are concluded today.
These repair costs fall under the responsibility of the Utility, not Project Wide or any residential CDD’s.
