The District (VCDD) Warns Public of “Phishing” Emails Impersonating District Staff

The Villages Community Development Districts (VCDD) are warning residents of an increasing phishing scam in which unauthorized individuals are sending emails that appear to come from legitimate District staff. These fraudulent messages are designed to deceive recipients into sharing personal or account information.

These emails may:

  • Display the official District logo

  • Come from external email providers such as Gmail or ‘netins.net’

  • Include attachments requesting membership or account updates

Please be advised: These emails are NOT from the District.

Please be advised that we NEVER use Gmail accounts for official business communications. All legitimate correspondence from our organization will ONLY come from email addresses ending with @districtgov.org.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Verify the sender’s email address before responding to any message claiming to be from the District.

  • Do not click links or open attachments from unfamiliar or suspicious messages.

  • Never provide personal or financial information unless you are certain of the requester’s identity.

  • Report any questionable communications to District Customer Service immediately or local law enforcement.

Important actions:
  • Never provide personal information via email, unless you are certain you are speaking with a legitimate VCDD representative. Use caution when sending any sensitive information via email.

  • Verify the senders identity by calling the official VCDD number listed on the agency website.

  • Report suspicious emails to The Villages Community Development Districts (VCDD) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we work to resolve the situation. We take this matter very seriously and are working to investigate and address the situation.
