Update: Wildwood Utility Crews Repair Water Transmission Main Break
City officials are reporting completion of repairs to a 12-inch transmission main along U.S. 301, approximately 800 feet south of the SR 44 intersection. The water main was repaired, flushed, and returned to service at approximately 4:35 p.m. today.
The break occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Water crews responded immediately and had isolated the affected line by approximately 10:00 a.m. Customers without water during the repair were limited to those on U.S. 301 from SR 44 to the Florida Turnpike and a portion of Clay Drain Road.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience during the response, isolation, and repair process,” said Deputy Director Jason Martin. “We understand the inconvenience of service interruptions and do everything in our powers to restore flow and pressure as quickly as we possibly can.”
Staff notified approximately 120 customers affected by the incident by hanging door tags advising precautionary boiling of their water. Notices were posted at City Hall and the city’s website as well as shared with the Department of Health.
The damage appeared to result from limestone and rock surrounding the water main that compromised the integrity of the pipe over time, ultimately causing it to rupture.
