Golf Information

Golfer, Guest and Seasonal ID

Each resident is required to present proper identification when checking in to use recreation facilities, including the executive courses. Photocopies of an ID card are not permitted as acceptable forms of identification and are subject to collection by a staff member. All guests must be registered with The Villages and guest passes must be accompanied by photo identification at the time of use whether accompanied by the sponsoring resident or not. Seasonal or temporary resident ID cards are required to be accompanied by a valid photo ID for use.

What costs are related to playing on the Executive Golf Trail?

Green fees on the executive courses are free for residents. A trail fee is required for use of a golf car on the courses and may be paid daily, semi-annually or annually. The fee is required for each person in a golf car. The daily trail fee is $3.50 per person. Members of a household may purchase a six-month trail fee for $90.00 plus tax and a yearly trail fee is available for $132.00 plus tax. There is no charge to resident or seasonal golfers for walking.

Annual and semi-annual trail fees for use on the Executive Golf Trail may be paid at any regional recreation center (Paradise, La Hacienda, Savannah, Mulberry Grove, Laurel Manor and Lake Miona).

Trail fee expiration information can be found using the tee time reservation system under Option 9 and entering “2” to hear membership information. This information can also be accessed via the “change personalized settings” link within www.thevillages.net Tee Time System.

A green fee is required for guests to play golf. The fee ranges from $6.50 in the months of May to October and $10.00 from November to April. Guests are obligated to an additional $3.50 trail fee, unless they are walking, regardless of whether the sponsoring resident has a paid trail fee or not.

Using the Tee Time Reservation System

It is recommended for all residents to attend the Good Golf School, where an overview of the tee time system and its features are presented. There is a brochure available at all country clubs, executive courses and the golf administration office clearly explaining all options when using the system. Resident golfers may also call 750-4558 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and weekends from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for assistance.

Golf car guidelines on the course

Holes on the Executive Golf Trail are primarily par three. On these holes golf car traffic is required to remain on the path at all times with no exception. However, the Trail also features several par four holes where golf cars may leave the paths under normal conditions. Traffic may be restricted based on conditions which may damage the turf.

Golf car guidelines

The following are the requirements/specifications for “acceptable” golf car tires for all The Villages golf courses (both executive and championship):

  • The manufacturer of the tire must refer to the tire as a “golf course tire”
  • The tire must have rounded vertical tread with a maximum depth of ¼ inches
  • The total tire width must be a minimum of 8 inches
  • The tire pressure must not exceed 28 psi

Tire manufacturer specifications may change from year to year; we reserve the right to modify this policy without notice in accordance with specifications set by the manufacturer industry.

Golf cars with non-conforming tires may be used on the executive courses only. However, golf cars will be required to remain on the golf car path during the entire round.

Golf car rentals for use on the Executive Golf Trail

Golf cars may be rented from any country club for use at an executive course. It is recommended to seek out the closest club to the course one wishes to play. Rental of the golf car is for nine holes only and must be returned to the country club upon completion of play. A trail fee is included in rental of a golf car. The receipt for rental is shown and validated at the time of beginning a round.

Course Closures

Each course on the Executive Golf Trail is closed one-half day on a bi-weekly rotation. However, there is a possibility of scheduled maintenance required periodically that would warrant a temporary closure. Regular golf course closures are published in the Daily Sun newspaper and random maintenance closures are published as necessary.

Weather Delays on the Executive Golf Trail

Unfortunately we are not able to recover tee times lost due to weather delays such as fog, rain, or frost. However, we do make every effort to get golfers on the course (where possible) when conditions permit. In the case of a frost delay, we will begin tee times at the time when the frost delay is lifted.

Lightning Safety

Caution is recommended when playing golf in the summer at a time when lightning storms are prevalent. Even when seen from a distance, lightning can be a concern and golfers should not risk injury by staying on the course. Staff on the Executive Golf Trail will not prohibit play. However, staff will make recommendations if they have seen a storm approaching. Protection from lightning is the responsibility of each golfer and no measures are taken to prohibit starting of play or using the course when lightning is present.

Men’s and Ladies’ Day

Each week on the Executive Golf Trail around 2,000 men and women golfers enjoy this competition on six different courses. Tuesday is Men’s Day and Wednesday is Ladies’ Day. Courses included are Silver Lake, Mira Mesa, De La Vista, Saddlebrook, Walnut Grove and Pimlico. We also have a bi-weekly event called Super Seniors for our golfers aged 75 or older played on the second Friday of each month at El Santiago and on the last Friday of each month at Silver Lake. Registration in the event can be made through our tee time reservation system. For questions please call the Executive Golf Trail Support office at 753-0034.

Good Golf Guide

This is a must-have for all resident golfers and includes information on finding your niche in our golf community. The booklet contains information on the golf courses including directions and phone numbers, tips on enjoying the game as a new golfer and various other helpful tips for making the most of a Villages golf experience. This booklet also provides valuable information on how everyone can be considered a “Good Golfer” in our community.

Junior golfers

We welcome junior golfers and want to encourage their development along with spending quality time with their parent or grandparent. Golfers under the age of 16 are not permitted to operate golf cars on any course in The Villages. Juniors are considered guests and are obligated to the same fees and guidelines as adult golfers. Juniors under 10 years of age may not accompany a group as a spectator, however, may be included if they are equipped with golf equipment.

The Executive Golf Trail Scramble

Held the first week of October each year, the Scramble is the premier event of the calendar each year on the Executive Golf Trail. This annual charity event has raised thousands of dollars since its inception in 2000. In 2005, the event raised $7000.00 towards supporting Operation Shoebox and the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief. The tournament is a scramble format with three qualifying rounds and the low nine teams from our men’s and ladies divisions advancing to a final championship round.

Rental Golf Clubs

Each golfer on the executive courses is required to be equipped with a set of golf clubs. Sharing of clubs is not permitted due to pace of play concerns. Clubs may be rented for use from any country club facility for use on any executive course.

Resident-only golf courses

Play on Silver Lake, Mira Mesa and De La Vista golf courses is reserved for golfers with resident privileges only. No guests are permitted on these courses.
