Qualified Electors Frequently Asked Questions
- Who can register to vote?
- In order to register to vote, a person must:
- Be a citizen of the United States of America;
- Be a Florida resident;
- Be 18 years old;
- Not now be adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting in Florida or any other state;
- Not have been convicted of a felony in Florida, or any other state, without your civil rights restored;
- Provide your current and valid Florida driver’s license number or Florida identification card number.
- How do I register to vote?
- Contact the office of your county Supervisor of Elections and request a Florida Voter Registration Application.
- What is the deadline to register to vote?
- The registration books will be closed on the 29th day before each election and will remain closed until after that election.
- How do I vote absentee ballot?
- A voter, or member of the voter’s immediate family or the voter’s legal guardian, if directly instructed by the voter, may request an absentee ballot. Contact the office of the county Supervisor of Elections where you are registered to vote to request an absentee ballot.
- What times are the polls open on election day?
- Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on election day. Any voter who is standing in line at 7:00 p.m. is eligible to cast a vote.
- What kind of identification do I need to bring to the polls?
- You will be asked to provide a current and valid picture identification with a signature.
- Can I still vote if I do not bring identification?
- Yes. You should not be turned away from the polls because you do not bring identification. If you do not have the proper identification, you will be allowed to vote a provisional ballot.
- Where do I vote?
- Qualified Electors will vote at the precinct listed on your voter registration card.
- Becoming a candidate?
- Candidates seeking election to office by qualified electors shall conduct their campaigns in accordance with provisions of Florida State Statute Chapter 106 and shall file qualifying papers and qualify for individual seats in accordance with Florida State Statute 99.061. Contact the office of your county Supervisor of Elections for additional information.
- What is the Petition deadline?
- Prior to noon, May 19, 2008, petitions must be submitted to the Supervisor of Elections of the county in which such petitions were circulated in order to have signatures verified for qualifying.
- What are the qualifying requirements?
- Qualifying for the Board of Supervisors of the Village Community Development Districts begins noon, June 16, 2008 and ends noon, June 20, 2008.
