Golf Car Safety Guidelines

  • Golf cars follow the same traffic laws as cars, including regulatory signs and the use of directional or hand signals when making turns.
  • If your golf car is equipped with headlights, please use them during inclement weather and at night.
  • Golf cars may not cross over or drive on Highway 27/441, CR 466, Griffin Avenue or any road with a posted speed limit of 45 mph or higher.
  • Golf cars must use the transportation trail adjacent to El Camino Real and/or Buena Vista Boulevard. These roadways can only be crossed by using the Under-Road-Tunnels.
  • Do not allow anyone to ride standing on the back platform of the golf car.
  • Golf cars should be driven in the marked diamond lanes or along the right hand edge of the street if there is no marked lane.
  • Golf cars are not allowed to travel on sidewalks.
  • Florida State Law requires that no one under the age of 14 be allowed to operate a golf car on a public street or golf car path anywhere in the state of Florida.
  • When making a left turn, please merge with vehicular traffic just prior to the intersection and turn using the proper signal and turn lane.

These guidelines will help you enjoy using a golf car and help keep your loved ones safe. For additional information on golf car safety rules, please plan to attend one of the Safety Clinics presented by The Villages Homeowners Association on a regular basis. To obtain times and locations for these clinics, please go to www.thevillagesvoice.com and click on “Events,” or check the Villages Voice newsletter in The Villages Daily Sun newspaper.
